KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court initiates contempt of court action against Home Minister Bhim Bahadur Rawal, Inspector General of Nepal Police Ramesh Chandra Thakuri and Superintendent of the Kathmandu Metropolitan Police Range Ramesh Kharel for violating its verdict to release detainees. Bikash Simkhada, Dilli Prasad Paneru and Bhim Bahadur Rokka were arrested at the Supreme Court premises for the third time. A single bench of Justice Rana Bahadur Bam then ordered the defendants to explain in seven days why they should never be punished for contempt of court. Nirmala Thapa has moved the court, charging the authorities of violating the ruling of by arresting her brother, Bikash Simkhada, and his friends Paneru and Rokka.

The trio have been detained in the Kathmandu Metropolitan Police Range, Hanumandhoka. The bench also directed the defendants to produce a reason for the arrest within 24 hours.

The trio were first arrested for public offence one-and-a-half months ago and prosecuted in the Kathmandu District Administration Office but when the latter ordered to release them on a bail for Rs 2,000 each, they were rearrested by the security personnel of Lalitpur Metropolitan Police Range charging them with attacking on duty police personnel on September 22.[FROM SIKKIM REPORTER / EDITED BY ASHOK CHATTERJEE]
