The Gorkha Janmukti Morcha since its inception has always pledged on bringing Gorkhas across the nation on the same platform and have stressed upon uniting Gorkhas residing in various parts of the country. Within 46 months, GJM has been mostly successful in achieving this feat as it has its Sakhas (branches) spread across North-Eastern states, Delhi, Uttarkhand, Hyderabad, Kolkota, Jharkhand and Sikkim. The Gorkhaland Territorial Administration bill was successfully passed in the Assembly yesterday and it will start working towards development of the Gorkhaland area, but the movement of the separate state of Gorkhaland will alongside continue on the National level. The GJM founder-president Mr. Bimal Gurung has always reiterated that the main goal of the organization is achieving the separate state of “Gorkhaland” and hence, he will not rest till it is achieved.

Keeping on line with the party’s ideology, the GJM National Committee members Mr. Ashok Biswa and Mr. Pankaj Chhetri are on a visit to northern India, mainly Delhi, Haryana and Uttarkhand. The purpose of the visit is to speak to the Gorkhas residing in these states and strengthening the party. In the past week, they met party workers from Delhi unit and also attended a GJM Delhi unit meeting on 28th Aug 2011 (Sunday). Various issues were discussed with the Delhi unit and the duo took note of their suggestions, feedbacks, and grievances. They also explained various aspects and benefits of GTA and encouraged people to come forward for the cause of Gorkhaland. They stressed upon strengthening the party in Delhi and NCR.

Yesterday, they visited Roorkee in Uttarkhand upon invitation from Mr. B S Rana, founder president of the “Gorkha Samaj Kalyan Samiti”, the social organization formed by the Gorkhas residing in and around Roorkee. The society has been working for the benefits and welfare of the Gorkhas in the region. Indeed, the society has its own importance and its contribution to the Gorkhas residing in this region is immense. The meeting started at around 3:30 PM and it was attended by members of the society and the gorkhas residing in Roorkee. Mr. Ashok Biswa, in his speech urged the gathering to do away with the personal differences, if any, and work towards the welfare of the Gorkha community and unite together for the cause of “Identity”. He also made gatherings aware of the current political scenario in Darjeeling and also explained about GTA that is being implemented in Darjeeling. Mr. Pankaj Chhetri in his speech appreciated the help and support from the society and said that society has a huge role to play in uniting Gorkhas in Uttarkhand. He rued over the fact though there are lakhs of Gorkhas residing in Uttarkhand, but we do not have any strong political party to lead our community and have no role to play in state politics. He requested the gathering to come forward and support GJM as it’s the only party and its president, Mr. Bimal Gurung is the only leader who has the potential to unite Gorkhas across India and work for the welfare of the entire Gorkha community.

The meeting lasted for more than two hours and the National Committee members left for Dehradun in the evening.
