The researchers uncovered an underground structure in a series of buried tombs that date to the 6th and 7th centuries. Among the Coptic, or early Christian, images painted on the walls was what lead researcher Josep Padró described as “the figure of a young man, with curly hair, dressed in a short tunic and with his hand raised as if giving a blessing.”

Megha-Airports That Will Pivot the Passenger Flows

Posted by Ram Kumar Shrestha on April 30, 2014

A lot of cities arrived at busy crossroads in the distant past, and those cities prospered in varying degree depending on how busy the nearby road is. In present days we see that airports have the same role as the crossroads in the past. A busy airport with big traffic could boost strongly the development of a nearby city, or even to become a settlement itself. Now we will take a look over several airports with the potential to become significant traffic points.

Al Maktoum International Airport

Its full completion is expected in 2027 and then it will serve the needs of 160 million travelers. The facility costs $32 milliard and it operates since 2007 when the first passenger aircraft took off from the runway.

Beijing Daxing International Airport

Daxing is a rural region located 30 miles (48 km) away from Beijing. It is still a rural field there, but with the investment of $11 milliard and 5 years of hard work, it will become one of the largest airports in the world. After its completion in 2018 it will be used from 120 to 200 million passengers that will be able to reach Beijing via high-speed train in no more than 30 minutes.

A private company located in eastern China has printed ten full-size houses using a huge 3D printer in the space of a day. The process utilizes quick-drying cement, but the creators are being careful not to reveal the secrets of the technology.

China’s WinSun company, used a system of four 10 meter wide by 6.6 meter high printers with multi-directional sprays to create the houses. Cement and construction waste was used to build the walls layer-by-layer, state news agency Xinhua reported.

“To obtain natural stone, we have to employ miners, dig up blocks of stone and saw them into pieces. This badly damages the environment,” stated Ma Yihe, the inventor of the printers. Yihe has been designing 3D printers for 12 years and believes his process to be both environmentally friendly and cost-effective.

Teen suspended for asking Miss America to prom (Video)

Posted by Ram Kumar Shrestha on April 20, 2014

A teen in the US has been suspended from school for asking Miss America to his prom during a question-and-answer session with the beauty queen.

1904_davuluri_TAB_gPatrick Farves, a student from York in Pennsylvania, popped the bold question to Nina Davuluri on Thursday, leading to his three-day inner-school suspension.

Mr Farves asked Miss America to be his prom date before walking on stage and giving her a plastic flower as his fellow students roared in support.

A demure Ms Davuluri only laughed and accepted the flower.

Officials from Central York High School had got wind of the 18-year-old’s intended invitation and warned him not to do it, the Associated Press reports.

Mr Farves has since apologised for the stunt but the school said students should be disciplined for breaking the rules and this time is no different.

September 16, 2013: Miss New York, Nina Davuluri, has won the 2013 Miss America pageant, beating a field that challenged stereotypes and included a US army sergeant and an amputee.

“It is not our practice to discipline a student for asking someone – even Miss America – to a school dance,” the Central York School District wrote in a statement.

“However, it is our practice to set expectations for students…to ensure those rules are followed within our schools.”

The school board also criticised the media’s response for framing the story to “make headlines using a distortion of what actually occurred” in order to sell papers while taking away from the “once in a lifetime opportunity” for its students.

Davuluri, who was crowned last September, was at the school to talk about diversity and to promote diversity and the importance of studying maths, science, technology and engineering.

The former Miss New York who studied behavioural science at Michigan University is now applying for medical school.

As the first Indian-American to win the Miss America crown, Davuluri copped a barrage of xenophobic tweets equating her with the terrorist organisation al-Qaeda and misidentifying her as an Arab and follower of Islam.

Most Interesting Man Takes Land Mine Role

I’ve posted a lot of research from experts on getting people to like you, being influential and having great conversations.

1) First, Don’t Be Boring

We’re all terrible at realizing when we bore others because, well, we all think we’re just fascinating.

The #1 tip for never boring anyone comes from Scott AdamsBe brief, be positive.

If you’re always to the point and stay upbeat, it’s extremely hard for anyone to accuse you of being poor company.

But sometimes you do need to speak a little longer to make sure things don’t get stilted.

The Art of Civilized Conversation offers another good tip: Is anyone asking you questions about what you’re saying?

If not, maybe it’s time to end the story or ask the other person a question. Read the rest of this entry »

Posted by Ram Kumar Shrestha on April 19, 2014

by  Katherine Brooks

The street art world has undergone a massive shift in the past few years, with famous figures like Banksy and Shepard Fairey elevating the medium to mainstream consciousness. What was once a clandestine act of art vandalism is now, more often, a celebrated form of public art, popping up in major metropolises across the globe. “Street art and graffiti is ephemeral, transitory, a moment in time,” the experts at Brooklyn Street Art assert, emphasizing the contemporary allure of graffiti and street art.

With summer upon us, and months of travel opportunities on the horizon, we’ve put together a guide of the top cities around the world that prove street art is indeed a thing to be celebrated. From Brazil to France to Taiwan, these urban centers play home to works by street art stars like Nunca, Blu and the late P183. So if you’re in the mood for a cross-continental trip, these are the 26 cities you need to add to your travel bucket list now.

बिश्वकै कंगाल राष्ट्रपतिको अनौठो जीवनशैली !

Posted by Ram Kumar Shrestha on April 18, 2014

Read the rest of this entry »

US: Why the Minimum Wage Should Really Be Raised to $15 an Hour

Posted by Ram Kumar Shrestha on April 9, 2014

By Robert Reich, Chancellor’s Professor of Public Policy, University of California at Berkeley; author, ‘Beyond Outrage’

An American earning half of an Aussie’s income.

All are equal, but some are more equal.

ROBERT B. REICH’s film “Inequality for All” is now available on DVD and blu-ray, and on Netflix Instant Watch. Watch the trailer below:

Momentum is building to raise the minimum wage. Several states have already taken action — Connecticut has boosted it to $10.10 by 2017, the Maryland legislature just approved a similar measure, Minnesota lawmakers just reached a deal to hike it to $9.50. A few cities have been more ambitious — Washington, D.C. and its surrounding counties raised it to $11.50, Seattle is considering $15.00

Senate Democrats will soon introduce legislation raising it nationally to $10.10, from the current $7.25 an hour.

All this is fine as far as it goes. But we need to be more ambitious. We should be raising the federal minimum to $15 an hour. Read the rest of this entry »

14-Year-Old Could Save Government Nearly $400 Million Dollars (Videos)

Posted by Ram Kumar Shrestha on April 2, 2014

By  | The Good News

It took a ninth-grader to come up with a simple solution that could save the U.S government $400 million annually, and it all revolves around the type of font used on paperwork.

Suvir Mirchandani, a 14-year-old who lives just outside of Pittsburgh, began researching the general cost of ink and printing when as part of a science project he was in the sixth grade at Dorseyville Middle School, and determined that his local school system could save $21,000 a year if it switched from a font like Times New Roman to one with narrower strokes like Garamond.

He used a computer software program to calculate the difference, and published his results in the Journal of Emerging Investigators. Shortly thereafter, he was asked by the Journal to calculate potential savings if the federal government similarly switched fonts.

That total came to about $370 million. Read the rest of this entry »
