Katrina Darling, who’s a distant cousin ofKate Middleton, has used her royal connections well to her advantage.

No, the 22-year-old ex-banker isn’t trying to finagle a palace to reside in or an all-expense paid education to a plum college. She’s wearing crown-shaped pasties while working as a burlesque dancer in New York City — and she just dropped… wait for it… a Playboy photo shoot.

Darling’s Playboy pictorial, as we first told you back in June, comes with the magazine’s September 2012 issue. Not only does she get a huge racy spread, but homegirl has landed the entire COVER. (Nice hustle, Katrina’s publicist.)

There are seemingly no nudes, but there are eight pages of pics inside the issue, including a topless photo. On the cover, the brunette poses, doe-eyed, in some strappy black lingerie — looking a wee bit Photoshopped. Read the rest of this entry »

Cheryl Cole reveals online bullying hell

Cole spoke about the cyber bullies as she told Grazia magazine that she could relate to the teenagers helped by her charity, The Cheryl Cole Foundation.

“I get what these kids have gone through because I had a tough upbringing and I understand what it feels like to get bullied like some of them,” she said of growing up while living on a tough Newcastle council estate.

The former X Factor judge added: “In the last few years, I’ve been bullied on Facebook and Twitter. It’s evil and very public.

“People judge my appearance and hair, and say that I look fat.”

Speaking while meeting some of the teenagers that her Foundation has worked with, she told the magazine: “I want to help these young people because I know how it feels to come out on the other side and be someone who achieves.”

Last week, TV couple Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford said they have been the targets of internet trolls, while in March, former Blue Peter presenter Richard Bacon said that he has been subjected to online abuse.

Stephen Hawking: ‘I Held A Party For Time-Travellers… But None Came’

Posted by Ram Kumar Shrestha on July 3, 2012

Stephen Hawking recently gave a party – for time travellers.

But while he told plenty of people about the date, sent out invitations and waited patiently for them to arrive, no body came.

Of course that might have been because he waited until the party was over to send out the invites.

Professor Hawking explained his failed experiment in a recent interview with various journalists, written up by Ars Technica.

“I have experimental evidence that time travel is not possible,” he said.

“I gave a party for time-travellers, but I didn’t send out the invitations until after the party. I sat there a long time, but no one came.”

Hawking has previously spoken about the party, which was ‘held’ on 28th June 2009, and produced a video about the experiment – but due to the laws of causality, no one has retrospectively showed up.

Hawking also said that Einstein’s theories offer the possibility of travelling backwards in time – but “it is likely that warping would trigger a bolt of radiation that would destroy the spaceship and maybe the space-time itself”.

In the interview Hawking was also asked about alien life – and reassuringly said that it isn’t likely aliens are coming to visit.

“I’m discounting claims that UFOs contain aliens. Why would they appear only to cranks and weirdos?” he asked. Read the rest of this entry »

Einstein was right, neutrino researchers admit

Posted by Ram Kumar Shrestha on June 11, 2012

Einstein's 1905 theory of special relativity described the velocity of light as the maximum speed in the cosmos

Picture shows Albert Einstein at a press conference in 1950. A team of scientists who last year suggested neutrinos could travel faster than light conceded Friday that Einstein was right and the sub-atomic particles are — like everything else — bound by the universe’s speed limit.

Scientists on Friday said that an experiment which challenged Einstein’s theory on the speed of light had been flawed and that sub-atomic particles — like everything else — are indeed bound by the universe’s speed limit.

Researchers working at the European Centre for Nuclear Research (CERN) caused a storm last year when they published experimental results showing that neutrinos could out-pace light by some six kilometres (3.7 miles) per second.

The findings threatened to upend modern physics and smash a hole in Albert Einstein’s 1905 theory of special relativity, which described the velocity of light as the maximum speed in the cosmos.

But CERN now says that the earlier results were wrong and faulty kit was to blame.

“Although this result isn’t as exciting as some would have liked, it is what we all expected deep down,” said the centre’s research director Sergio Bertolucci.

“The story captured the public imagination, and has given people the opportunity to see the scientific method in action.

“An unexpected result was put up for scrutiny, thoroughly investigated and resolved in part thanks to collaboration between normally competing experiments. That’s how science moves forward.” Read the rest of this entry »

Turtle Divorce: Giant Turtles Divorce After 115 Years Together

Posted by Ram Kumar Shrestha on June 9, 2012

Huffington Post

You can’t say they didn’t try.

After an impressive 115 years together, two giant turtles at an Austrian zoo are refusing to share their cage anymore, the Austrian Times reported Friday.

“We get the feeling they can’t stand the sight of each other anymore,” said Helga Happ, director of the Klagenfurt-based zoo, where the turtles — Bibi, the female and Poldi, the male — have lived for the last 36 years. Before that, they called Basel Zoo in Switzerland home.

According to the paper, zoo staff realized something was amiss when Bibi bit off a chunk of her partner’s shell. When the attacks continued, Poldi was moved to another cage.

Animal experts even attempted couples’ counseling — feeding the turtles aphrodisiacs and encouraging them to play games together. But so far, efforts have failed to bring the shelled lovers back together.

Turtles aren’t the only members of the animal kingdom known to “divorce” their partners. Studies have shown that some birds who mated successfully with a partner one year have “divorced” and moved on with another partner in successive years.

Obama Speech In Afghanistan: U.S. President Addresses The Nation

Posted by Ram Kumar Shrestha on May 2, 2012

Comment: But just be honest to yourself first and then to others. Then World Peace is not impossible:

President Barack Obama made a surprise visit to Afghanistan on Tuesday night to sign an agreement with President Hamid Karzai outlining the United States’ military presence in Afghanistan after 2014.

In a live address, President Obama spoke from Bagram Air Base north of Kabul early Wednesday morning, emphasizing that America must finish the job it started while Afghanistan stabilizes.

“My fellow Americans, we have traveled through more than a decade under the dark cloud of war. Yet here, in the pre-dawn darkness of Afghanistan, we can see the light of a new day on the horizon. The Iraq War is over. The number of our troops in harm’s way has been cut in half, and more will be coming home soon. We have a clear path to fulfill our mission in Afghanistan, while delivering justice to al Qaeda,”he said.

President Obama also underlined points of the agreement, including that the U.S. will not build military bases in Afghanistan.

“We will shift into a support role as Afghans step forward,” President Obama said.

President Obama’s trip coincides with the anniversary of former al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden’s death. President Obama and President Karzai signed the agreement at the presidential palace in the Afghan capital Kabul.

Broody Cheryl Cole Picks Name For Child In GQ Interview

Posted by Ram Kumar Shrestha on April 29, 2012

Cheryl Cole has already chosen a name for her first son – but admits she’s struggling to find the right man to settle down with.

The 28-year-old, who broke off her marriage to footballer Ashley Cole in February 2010, has told GQ magazine that she yearns for a husband to have kids with.

The former Girls Aloud singer said: “I’d love kids. I’m obsessed with babies. Of course I’ve thought about baby names. A million times.

“I like (the name) Alfie for a little boy. I know that is what I was put on Earth to do – to be a mother.”

Cheryl has a soft spot for Prince Harry but is wary of looking like the older woman if they were to date. She says: “I think he’s amazing and I think you can relate to him because he’s made mistakes. He’s cool. Although, I think I would be Cougarville in that relationship.” Read the rest of this entry »

Antarctica’s Ice Shelves Melting Quicker Than Scientists Previously Thought, New Study Shows (PHOTOS)

Posted by Ram Kumar Shrestha on April 26, 2012

Global sea levels could rise at a significantly higher rate than had been previously predicted, a new study, published this week in the journal Nature, revealed.

The findings, which came from research led by glaciologist Hamish Pritchard of theBritish Antarctic Survey (BAS), show that the western side of Antarctica is shedding 23 feet of ice sheet each year, from a mixture of causes, most of which are man-made.

Using the NASA ICESat satellite, which recorded 4.5 million measurements over five years, the BAS discovered that 20 of Antarctica’s 54 ice shelves across Antarctica were actually being melted from below, by warm water, rather than warmer air caused by global warming. They believe that changes in wind currents pushed warmer water towards the ice shelves.

This means that a larger amount of ice is melting in the area than was previously thought.

The cause of the wind change itself, Pritchard said, was due to man-made greenhouse gases and the hole in the ozone layer, as well as natural weather variation.

Pritchard said: “In most places in Antarctica, we can’t explain the ice-shelf thinning through melting of snow at the surface, so it has to be driven by warm ocean currents melting them from below.” Read the rest of this entry »

Intelligent Humans Evolved To Worry, Say Scientists

Posted by Ram Kumar Shrestha on April 13, 2012

Comment: Never try to be happy with respect to something else. There is no guarantee that you will be able to control others. So try to make yourself frame of reference if you really want to be happy:

A new study by researchers at SUNY Downstate Medical Center in the US suggests that excess worrying could be a sign of intelligence.

Scientists found that high intelligence and worry both correlate with brain activity measured by the depletion of the nutrient choline in the subcortical white matter of the brain. According to the researchers, this suggests that intelligence may have co-evolved with worry in humans.

“While excessive worry is generally seen as a negative trait and high intelligence as a positive one, worry may cause our species to avoid dangerous situations, regardless of how remote a possibility they may be,” said Jeremy Coplan, MD, professor of psychiatry at SUNY Downstate. Adele, Daniel Radcliffe Enjoy Top Honours On Sunday Times Rich List

Posted by Ram Kumar Shrestha on April 12, 2012

Adele heads a female-dominated list of the UK’s richest young musicians, who are beating their male counterparts in the money charts.

The multi-Grammy winner has amassed a fortune of £20 million, elevating her above Cheryl Cole, Leona Lewis and Katie Melua in this year’s Sunday Times Rich List.

But Britain’s leading men remain at the top of the country’s wealthiest screen stars. Despite the Harry Potter film franchise coming to an end, its star Daniel Radcliffe remains the richest young actor.

The 22-year-old is sitting on a personal fortune of £54 million, up from £48 million in 2011, according to the Sunday Times. Read the rest of this entry »
