With his notoriously critical reputation, Cowell is likened to TV personalities such as Judith Sheindlin and Anne Robinson. Cowell also appeared on the one-off World Idol programme in 2003, where it became clear that each country’s version of the Idol had attempted to come up with its own “Simon Cowell” type personality. In 2003, Cowell placed No 33 on Channel 4‘s list of the all-time 100 Worst Britons. Cowell’s S Records signed the top two finishers of the first season of Pop IdolWill Young and Gareth Gates, both of whom went on to have No 1 UK hits. Efforts begun in 2001 materialised in 2004, when Cowell returned to his group manufacturing roots with his latest brainchild, the internationally successful operatic pop group Il Divo, consisting of three opera singers and one pop singer of four different nationalities. Inspired by the success of Il Divo, Simon created a child version, Angelis, beating competition from many similar groups emerging at Christmas 2006.

Fox's "The X Factor" Season Finale - Night 2

LONDON (Reuters) – Pop guru Simon Cowell carries pocket-sized inhalable oxygen shots, America’s “Mad Men” actress January Jones favors dried placenta pills, and British soap star Patsy Palmer rubs coffee granules into her skin.

Celebrities rarely shy away from public peddling of dubious ideas about health and science, and 2012 was no exception.

In its annual list of the year’s worst abuses against science, the Sense About Science (SAS) campaign also named former U.S. presidential candidate Mitt Romney for spreading misinformation about windows on planes, and Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps for false justifications for peeing in the pool.

Carly Rose Sonenclar, 13, Stuns Simon Cowell On ‘X Factor’ (VIDEO)

Posted by Ram Kumar Shrestha on November 17, 2012

We live-tweet “X Factor” every week on @HuffPostTeen — follow along with us Wednesday and Thursday at 8pm EST!

Carly Rose Sonenclar, the 13-year-old vocal powerhouse competing on “X Factor USA,” took on an epic, blockbuster hit for the show’s “Diva Week” theme: Celine Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On.” While, admittedly, we may be a tad biased towards the teen contestants on the show, we think Carly’s rendition of the sweeping love song was the biggest stunner of the night. See for yourself in the video above — and we dare you not to get a little bit weepy.

And we weren’t the only ones impressed with her performance: Carly was voted in second place overall by viewers, behind the 37-year-old country singer, Tate Stevens. Perhaps even more shockingly, Simon Cowell offered Carly (arguably) the best feedback he has given to any contestant on the USA show so far.

“I don’t believe you are a human being,” he said. “I actually don’t. Because you can’t do that at 13 — your control on that song. I thought I was going to hate it, and that note in the end was absolutely incredible. ” Read the rest of this entry »

Simon Cowell

Chances are, if you’re famous enough to have an authorised biography, you’re famous enough to have some bad publicity as a result of it.

Britain’s Got Talent’s Alesha Dixon: ‘Simon Cowell ‘Got Off’ On Stealing Me From Strictly’

Posted by Ram Kumar Shrestha on March 25, 2012

Alesha Dixon is adamant she was not forced to leave Strictly Come Dancing by Simon Cowell – but she does think the media mogul “got off” on stealing her from the BBC for Britain’s Got Talent.

The new Britain’s Got Talent judge was asked how she felt about Simon deliberately poaching her to cause controversy.

She tells The Mirror: “I’m sure he got off on that. But I’m a 33-year-old woman who makes her own decisions. It makes it sound like he stole me and I had no choice. I’m not a puppet.”

But Alesha does admit that her mum and nan urged her to accept the offer. Read the rest of this entry »

Britain’s Got Talent And The Voice Go Head To Head As BBC And ITV Spark Ratings War

Posted by Ram Kumar Shrestha on March 24, 2012

War between two big:

The BBC and ITV are set for a ratings war for Saturday night supremacy when their respective talent shows go head-to-head in the battle for viewers.

The Voice makes its debut at 7pm tonight with the return of Britain’s Got Talent an hour later at 8pm – meaning the shows will overlap for 20 minutes.

It had been feared they would crossover for as long as 50 minutes and the exact timings have been a source of tension since it emerged both channels were launching their shows on the same night.

BBC bosses accused ITV of trying to sabotage the debut of their new series as BGT normally launched around three weeks later in the year.

However ITV claimed a clash was foreseeable if the BBC opted to launch a Saturday evening series in the spring.

The departure of Alesha Dixon from the BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing to join the BGT panel alongside Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden and David Walliams, did not improve relations and neither did the suggestion by The Voice’s co-host Reggie Yates that his show was “more credible” than other talent shows. Simon Cowell Sticking By Tulisa Contostavlos

Posted by Ram Kumar Shrestha on March 23, 2012

May be Simon with thinking that her clip leaked and others not:

Tulisa Contostavlos has one less thing to worry about as Simon Cowell is standing by her in the wake of her sex tape scandal.

The former N-Dubz singer has been left humiliated after admitting she was the girl performing a sex act in the seven-minute clip which appeared online earlier this week.

Tulisa, who initially branded the footage a fake, made her confession to fans in an online video message, in which she spoke about her devastation at the clip becoming public and her ex-boyfriend Justin Edwards, who she blames for the leak.

The controversy sparked rumours that her job on The X Factor had been thrown into jeopardy, but the show’s boss Simon Cowell insists the scandal won’t affect her returning to the panel this year.

The music mogul has also angrily lashed out at the person who sold the sex tape.

He ranted to The Sun“What she was doing was not illegal. You are allowed to do this stuff in your bedroom, but you don’t want the tape to come out. Read the rest of this entry »

‘Simon Cowell Is Single Again’, Says Pal Zeta Graff

Posted by Ram Kumar Shrestha on February 29, 2012

Simon Cowell has ditched his fiancee Mezhgan Hussainy after she became “too needy”, according to one of the music mogul’s glamorous gal pals.

Speculation has been rife for months that all is not well between the talent show titan and the make-up artist, who he proposed to in 2010 after they met behind-the-scenes on American Idol.

The exotic beauty was noticeably missing from Simon’s harem when he holidayed with ex-girlfriends Sinitta and Jackie St Clair aboard his luxury yacht in January, when he was joined on the high-seas by 43-year-old Greek actress Zeta Graff.

Zeta, the ex-wife of diamond heir Francois Graff, has now revealed that Simon has given Mezhgan the heave-ho.

Speaking to The Mirror, she says: “Mezhgan was lovely but it was all too much for Simon. As soon as he hears the words ‘stability’ and ‘future’, I think it all became a bit too much. Read the rest of this entry »

Simon Cowell Coy Over Britney Spears X Factor USA Rumours

Posted by Ram Kumar Shrestha on February 23, 2012

Simon Cowell is playing it coy about rumours that Fergie, Britney Spears and Janet Jackson are being considered for the US version of The X Factor.

Two judges’ spots on the Fox TV singing contest opened up when Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger left after the first season.

Cowell said that two women will replace them, but he declined to comment on who is being considered.

“There’s been a load of speculation, some true, some not true,” Cowell said.

He added that he had waited to see who was interested enough to ask about joining the show before focusing on the search.

Judge Antonio “LA” Reid confirmed there had been discussions about adding Whitney Houston but no contact was made with her. Whitney died on February 11. Read the rest of this entry »

Simon Cowell’s Quip Leaves Alesha Dixon Furious

Posted by Ram Kumar Shrestha on February 21, 2012

The cracks are already beginning to show between Simon Cowell and his glamorous new protegee Alesha Dixon after he left the beauty speechless during aBritain’s Got Talent audition by quipping, “Who are you?”

Simon was pleased as punch when he poached the former Mis-Teeq singer from the panel of Strictly Come Dancing, admitting it was a victory against what he sees as the nemesis of his string of TV talent shows.

Alesha, who was a judge on Strictly for three seasons after waltzing her way to victory on the show in 2007, was brought in as a glamorous new edition to the BGTjudging desk, alongside funnyman David Walliams and original judge Amanda Holden.

But it Simon and Alesha have been rubbing each other up the wrong way. A war of words erupted when dance group Lil’ Diamondz – who won Dixon’s kids’ TV show Alesha’s Street Dance Stars in September – auditioned, with the star telling them that they “hadn’t let her down”. Cheryl Cole ‘To Return To The X Factor’

Posted by Ram Kumar Shrestha on February 6, 2012

Girls Aloud singer Cheryl Cole was sensationally dumped just days into the US version of The X Factorbut it seems the star could be set to make a triumphant return to the UK series after Simon Cowell kicked off a campaign to get her back on the judging panel.

According to a report, Kelly Rowland is facing the axe after her performance “faded” towards the end of the last series and Simon is thought to be more determined than ever to make a success of the show after hostSteve Jones and judges Nicole Scherzinger and Paula Abdul were given the chop from the American arm of the franchise last week.

Cheryl and Simon’s relationship was rumoured to have been fraught after she was sacked from the television juggernaught but former Popstars The Rivals contestant made up with music impresario Simon after flying a congratulatory birthday banner past his 52nd birthday party. X’ed Out! Can Simon Cowell’s House Cleaning Save The X Factor?

Posted by Ram Kumar Shrestha on January 31, 2012

By JAMES PONIEWOZIK

Call it Rachel Crow’s revenge. (Or, if you prefer, Drew Ryniewicz’s.) After a first season of decent but not blockbuster-sized ratings, reports came out Monday that Simon Cowell had pulled a triple elimination on The X Factor, firing judges Paula Abdul (again!) and Nicole Scherzinger as well as host Steve Jones. (Fox has officially announced the latter two departures, but multiple outlets are reporting Abdul’s ouster as well.)

Each of the defenestrated stars had their critics in the show’s first US season—from the get-go, I was put off by Jones’ chilly TV-presenter style, Scherzinger was a judge who seem to resist, well, judging, and while Paula got her American Idol incoherence under control, it felt like some of her on-air personality went with it. But really, are The X Factor’s problems ones that can be fixed with a personnel change, or do they go deeper? Read the rest of this entry »
