Dear President Obama,

Recently we highlighted these photos and the news when you visited Great Buddha in Japan and Hilari Clinton was placing Lotus flowers on a Buddha statue.

The Buddha is revered as a Messenger of Peace. He is also known as the Light of Asia who is actually the Light of the World as his message of peace and non-violence has become more relevant as the world is facing many violence problems today. The world today has become more violent than ever before. Therefore, it was decided to spread the messages of the Buddha all over the world by observing Lumbini-Kapilvastu Day every year.  Read the rest of this entry »

Russia and US get STARTed

The new Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty between Russia and the US has fully come into force after Russia’s Foreign Minister and the US Secretary of State exchanged ratified and signed documents.

Following the ceremony, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announced that the New START treaty has taken effect in the form it was signed by the presidents of the two countries.

Even though the two sides had made so-called “special statements” or recommendations, they will not affect the actual implementation of the deal. The original text remains untouched. Read the rest of this entry »

Fulfillment of New START depends on US missile defense plans – Foreign Ministry

Russia will consider the expediency of the new Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty if the US steps up its unilateral missile defense program, Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov has said.

Moscow has confirmed that although there is no direct link between offensive arms reduction and missile defense in the treaty, Russia will be closely watching the moves of its Western partners.

If the US “increases the size and quality” of missile defense individually or together with NATO, this would mean the situation has changed, Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov said at a news conference on Monday. Then, Russia will have to consider if it should further comply with the treaty, he warned. Moscow may also take other measures, including military and technical, in response to the new situation.

The START treaty that took effect last week, limits both Russia and the US to 1,550 strategic warheads. The previous ceiling was 2,200. Read the rest of this entry »
