Young woman in India married with five husbands, who are all brothers

Posted by Ram Kumar Shrestha on May 30, 2014

  • Rajo Verma, 21, lives in one room with the siblings, in Northern India
  • The young wife spends each night with a different brother in turn
  • She does not know which of siblings is the father of her young son
  • Fraternal polyandry is tradition in the small village near Dehradun

POLYANDRY: AN ANCIENT TRADITION

The practice of polyandry is believed to stem from the tale of Mahabharata, the ancient Eastern epic.  The text, one of the cornerstones of culture, sees Draupadi, daughter of the King of Pancha being married to five brothers.

It is not legal, but in its most common form – whereby women in polyandrous relationships marry more than one man from the same family – it is permitted.  It tends to be practised in male dominated villages, who still follow primitive rituals and customs. Brothers who refuse the union are often treated as outcasts.

In polyandrous families, the woman often cannot say which of her husbands fathered which children. Recently, there have been instances of DNA testing, to solve inheritance disputes.

Photographer’s Son’s Cuteness Is Just Unbearable

Posted by Ram Kumar Shrestha on August 25, 2012

Cute Piano Kid

Our hearts melted when we came across a photo of toddler Ethan and had to share with the world (you can thank us after you click through the gallery). We’ve had quite a few contenders that could be entered into a “most adorable baby ever”competition here on HuffPost Parents, but Ethan has a few advantages — chubby cheeks, hipster sweaters and a photographer dad, Dotun Ayodeji. Sometimes, when you’re that cute and your parent is a talented photographer, the “OMG” factor can be almost too much to handle. (More proof: Kayla, Kristin and Henry). Click through the slideshow below, say AWW for as long as you need, then let us know in the comments — who are the cute kids in your life?

Cheryl
Cheryl Cole has already chosen a name for her first son – but admits she’s struggling to find the right man to settle down with.

The 28-year-old, who broke off her marriage to footballer Ashley Cole in February 2010, has told GQ magazine that she yearns for a husband to have kids with.

The former Girls Aloud singer said: “I’d love kids. I’m obsessed with babies. Of course I’ve thought about baby names. A million times.

“I like (the name) Alfie for a little boy. I know that is what I was put on Earth to do – to be a mother.”

Cheryl has a soft spot for Prince Harry but is wary of looking like the older woman if they were to date. She says: “I think he’s amazing and I think you can relate to him because he’s made mistakes. He’s cool. Although, I think I would be Cougarville in that relationship.” Read the rest of this entry »

‘The Sound Of Samba’: Rio’s Carnival In Tilt-Shift Miniature (VIDEO)

Posted by Ram Kumar Shrestha on February 28, 2012

Using tilt-shift techniques, filmmakers Keith Loutit and Jarbas Agnelli made Rio’s Carnival look as if it were happening in miniature. Their short film “The Sound Of Samba” is made of real footage from the city’s 2011 festival, but a trick of lens-tilting creates the illusion that each object is dramatically smaller than it actually is. From what looks like a tiny helicopter to ant-like hordes of revelers, the miniaturized details get across both how extensive and contained the city’s networks are. More of these please!

Princess Mary of Denmark shared an awkward moment with the ‘first man’ of Finland, Pentti Arajarvi, when she appeared to catch him staring at her cleavage during a gala dinner.

World’s Most Expensive Pudding At £22,000 Is Bought For 60th Birthday

Posted by Ram Kumar Shrestha on December 2, 2011

I culd establish wonderful school in a poor country with that money to give education to poor kids:

A hotel is celebrating after selling the most expensive dessert in the world.

Lindeth Howe Country House Hotel in Windermere, Cumbria, could only be crowned the title-holder if a customer was to dig deep and buy the £22,000 pudding it was offering.

Carl Weininger from Rugby, Warwickshire, splashed out on the wildly extravagant chocolate pudding as a treat for his 60th birthday on December 5 and the hotel’s culinary team is now waiting for confirmation that the dessert will take its place in the Guinness Book of World Records.

Styled like a Faberge Easter egg, the chocolate pudding is believed to have broken all previous records thanks to its pricey list of ingredients which includes gold, champagne caviar and a two-carat diamond.

Facebook Upshot: Own Status

Posted by Ram Kumar Shrestha on November 6, 2011

Kiss And Tell Girls – Do They Have Souls? (PHOTOS)

Posted by Ram Kumar Shrestha on October 31, 2011

As Jeremy Clarkson’s ex-wife Alex Hall attempts to construct a logical explanation for why she’s putting on paper her intimate dealings with a man whose right to privacy she “respected”, we examine the morals of kiss and tell girls.

This much-chastised breed of (usually) attractive women are often criticised for selling off their incriminating text messages, and for daring to look sexy while they do it.

The men whose names are dragged into this public sphere by allegations of romance and betrayal often remain our public heroes, while we turn on the temptresses like a pack of righteous wolves.

You could be mistaken for thinking all kiss-and-tells are constructed by predatory fame-hungry women, all part of their pursuit for cold hard cash and their time in the spotlight.

The reality is often different.

Sometimes kissing-n-telling may be an all-too-human reaction to a nasty situation. Some women (and men) take their revenge when scorned by cutting up their lover’s shirts. Others, who have the power to expose someone who is ordinarily seen as holier than though, take a different type of revenge – it’s effortless, destructive and financially beneficial – it’s easy to see how it lures so many women into its web.

Harold Camping Revises Apocalypse Prediction For Friday

Posted by Ram Kumar Shrestha on October 19, 2011

What really happened this past May 21st ? What really happened is that God accomplished exactly what He wanted to happen. That was to warn the whole world that on May 21 God’s salvation program would be finished on that day. For the next five months, except for the elect (the true believers), the whole world is under God’s final judgment. To accomplish this goal God withheld from the true believers the way in which two phrases were to be understood. Had He not done so, the world would never have been shaken in fear as it was.

German fashion designer makes dresses out of milk!

Posted by Ram Kumar Shrestha on October 13, 2011

BERLIN, OCT 13 –  A young fashion designer from the German city of Hanover is revolutionising high fashion by designing clothes with a staple she can find in her fridge — milk.

Anke Domaske, 28, has developed a fabric called QMilch made from high concentrations of the milk protein casein — the first man-made fibre produced entirely without chemicals.

“It feels like silk and it doesn’t smell — you can wash it just like anything else,” Domaske told Reuters.

Made from all natural materials, the QMilch fabric is ecological but also has many health benefits, said Domaske, who also said the amino acids in the protein are antibacterial, anti-ageing and can help regulate both blood circulation and body temperature.

Domaske’s fashion label Mademoiselle Chi Chi — a favourite among the likes of Mischa Barton and Ashlee Simpson — has now started weaving the milk fibre into its collection. Read the rest of this entry »
