SIKKIM: Gangtok show for Prashant film – India premiere to be in sikkim
Posted by Ram Kumar Shrestha on July 31, 2011
Telegraph
Gangtok, July 29: Prashant Tamang’s third Nepali film Kina Maya Ma will premiere in India with a screening
in Gangtok on August 27.
Gangtok-based filmmaker Chunnilal Ghimire said the premiere would be at Vajra cinema hall. “After the movie runs in Gangtok for some time, we will take it to Darjeeling and Kalimpong for screening,” said Ghimire. This is the first feature film of Channel Ace Productions run by Ghimire.
Although a love story, the film has references to the Gorkhaland movement in Darjeeling, the hometown of Indian Idol 3 winner Prashant, who plays the lead role.
If Sony’s talent hunt through the music reality show launched Prashant as a singer four years ago, it also sowed the seeds of a new party that now controls the Darjeeling hills.
In 2007, the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha was born after its president Bimal Gurung cashed in on the strong anti-Subash Ghisinghsentiment that swept through the hills during the campaign to help Prashant win the contest.
The GNLF chief had refused to publicly back Prashant even as the entire Gorkha community in Bengal and across the country put its collective might behind the singer.
Prashant won the September 2007 contest and bagged a Rs 1-crore music contract with Sony.
In Kina Maya Ma (why in love), Prashant is a singer from Nepal who falls in love with a girl from Sikkim. According to the director, in the film, Prashant gets stranded in Sikkim while returning to Nepal because of a “strike” in the neighbouring hills, a reference to Darjeeling and the statehood agitation there. Wooden alien lands in Russia
Posted by Ram Kumar Shrestha on July 30, 2011
Russia’s first ever statue of an alien has been unveiled near the city of Perm, in the Urals. It marks the site of the most
frequent UFO sightings in Russia.
The wooden statue, almost two meters tall, was erected at the entrance to the village of Molebka. This place was not chosen accidentally as it is considered one of the most popular UFO hotspots in Russia, Itar-Tass reports. Many believe that UFOs land there more often than in other places. The so-called Molebsky triangle was discovered in the 1980s.
“This is Russia’s first monument to a UFO,” the news agency quoted Nikolay Subbotin, the head of the Russian UFO Research Station (RUFORS), as saying. The monument with characteristic alien eyes was done by a local skilled craftsman, carver Viktor Sazanov, and cost local authorities 45,000 rubles (about US$1,600).
Subbotin said that now local ufologists are thinking of opening a UFO museum in Molebka with an observatory shaped like a flying saucer. They want to send the proposal to colleagues in the US city of Roswell, the most famous zone among ufologists. Read the rest of this entry »

Zara Phillips wedding: Queen’s eldest granddaughter goes from renegade royal to Mike Tindall’s housewife
Posted by Ram Kumar Shrestha on July 30, 2011
As the Queen’s eldest granddaughter and 13th in line to the throne she could have led a life of pomp and privilege before marrying some wealthy foreign prince or a millionaire magnate.
But when Zara Anne Elizabeth Phillips MBE walks down the aisle after tying the knot in Edinburgh today she will be plain Mrs Mike Tindall – housewife, horsewoman and homebody.
And that’s just how this fiercely independent young woman has always wanted it to be. For Zara, 30, is the reluctant princess who ripped up the rule book of her ancestors and snubbed her nose at stuffy protocol.
At 17 she flaunted her tongue piercing at her uncle Charlie’s 50th birthday party.
Two years later she hired a waiter in a leather thong to serve drinks to pals as they giggled over sex toys at an Ann Summers party.
And the whole nation knew when her first serious relationship fell apart because Zara was seen brawling in the street, punching and kicking her man.

Cheryl Cole and Simon Cowell end their feud by text – sealed with a X – mirror.co.uk
Posted by Ram Kumar Shrestha on July 30, 2011
SIMON Cowell’s text message to Cheryl Cole was short and sweet. He said simply: “Friends again? X.”
Her reply was equally brief: “You’ve got a nerve!… x.”
It was the ice-breaker that ended a frosty two months for the singer and her former mentor.
They fell out after Cheryl, 28, was dropped from the US version of X Factor after barely a week.
But their jokey midweek exchange ended the feud – and Simon sealed the peace deal with his texted kiss.
A source said yesterday: “Cheryl was thoroughly hurt and embarrassed by the whole US debacle. But she’s done a lot of thinking over the past few weeks, and has moved on. She texted Simon back with a message poking fun at his treatment of her. Simon was delighted.”
The friend added: “Simon’s made no secret of the fact he’d love to work with Cheryl again and, as far as he is concerned, the door is always open to her.
